IDENTIFY FAMILY MEMBERS WHO IS THAT WOMAN? Family Names Esler Day Gallagher Kramer

Do you have a pile of old photos as I do? Old family photos that have been passed down can be a true mystery. My goal this next year besides working on my family history is to attempt to identify some of these pictures.
This small black and white photo is of my grandmother Grace Daly Esler Day on the left side and my great grandmother Katherine Gallagher Esler in the middle. Now who is the lady on the right?
Known facts are this picture is probably take in the Mora Minnesota area outside of Katherine's house.
Katherine passed away the 19th of March 1940.
My grandmother Grace was born in 1893 and I can see just a bit of gray at the front of her hair. So she is about probably in her 40's. We gray early in my family sadly.
The dresses and hair styles are from the 1930's
Chances are it is a family member pictured with them and could be my grandmother's half sister Merle Esler Kramer who was born in 1906 and was about 13 years younger than grandma Grace.

That is what I am leaning towards. Will need to find other pictures of Merle to compare. Her is a picture of Merle at a later time in her life.

This picture would of been taken of my great aunt Merle Esler Kramer when she was living in Michigan.
Will find more pictures of her and work at further study.
Thanks for stopping by.. hope that you check back again. Grace

DO NOT ALWAYS BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE ON THE INTERNET WHEN DOING FAMILY RESEARCH My Gallagher Is Not That Gallagher

This morning while doing a little research on some elusive family members I saw that my great grandmother Katherine had married a Gallagher, that her first marriage was to a Raffety and maiden name was Curly.
None of this is true. Some one found a newspaper article stating this news item and posted it to Katherine.
It is so easy to want to believe what is posted but real research needs to be done.
I have shared with two ancestry members who had added this error to their family information.
The true fact is my Katherine was a Gallagher/ Gallaher before she married Appleton Esler. She was never married to any one else.

Back to my family research. This family is so difficult to research past Katherine's parents. I need to order death certificates for her parents Patrick and Johanna Gallagher/ Gallaher.

Thanks for stopping by and if you are related to me please let me know.

Treasure Chest Thursday Marriage of Katherine Gallaher and Appleton Esler 1893

It is Thursday and time for Treasure Chest Thursday. This is the marriage certificate of my great grandmother Katherine Gallaher when she married Appleton Esler. Appleton was not the father of my grandmother but raised her as his and my mother and her brother and sister always talked fondly of him and that he was their grandfather.

I love these old fancy documents. This one is in 4 pieces so quite fragile. It tells me that they married 12 of December 1893 in Wisconsin at Shelby Lat Co. ( not sure what this is but Shelby was a town in Wisconsin. E Markle was the justice of the peace and witnesses were Carolina Markle and Miss Bridget Gallaher ( sister of Katherine)
Glad that I have this great old piece of history to share with other family members.
Thanks for stopping by... Grace

Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Your Gratitude Story

It is Saturday night and time for Saturday Night Genealogy Fun.. tonight we are to tell a story of gratitude.

Randy Seaver has given us this mission, should you accept it, is to: * Read Megan Smolenyak's article 120 Years of Smolenyaks in America: A Note of Gratitude from a Great-Granddaughter* Do you have an ancestor like Megan's great-grandfather that was the first one to come to America (or your present country of residence) that you would like to thank?* If so, tell us about that ancestor - and why you are thankful for their effort.* Write your own blog post, or leave a comment on this post, or on the Facebook entry for this post.

The person I want to thank is my great grandmother Catherine Gallaher/ Gallagher. She went through struggles in the 1890's that must of been very hard for a woman of that time. She held strong to her beliefs and because of her we are the family we are.

Thank you great grandmother Catherine, I wish I had known you.

Family Events 12/ 6 to 12/12

December 6 ~ it the birthday of my 2nd Great Grand Aunt Jane Coleman. She was born in 1826 and was the older sister of my great grandfather John Henry.

December 12 ~ is the anniversary of my great grandmother Katherine Gallaher Appleton and Step great grandfather Appleton. They were married 115 years ago this date in Winona, Minnesota. Appleton may have been the step father of my grandmother, but he raised her as his own from age 1 and was her father and the grandfather of my mother and siblings.

Grandma Katherine and Her Guardian Angel

I have this wonderful vintage picture that hangs over my bed. It is called " The Guardian Angel". It once belonged to my great grandmother Katherine. I was told it hung over her bed and now has been handed down to me.

Vintage treasures that belonged to our ancestors are the best treasures I think. Money can buy new things but they have no value to me compared to knowing my great grandmother once held this picture in her hands.

Katherine was my grandma Grace's mother. She was born to Irish parents who came to America after the potato famine in Ireland. Lived almost all of her life in Minnesota , the last years in Mora.
This is Katherine with her husband Appleton.

I am nowhere  done searching for my roots. For my missing family members.  So many to fine so little time.  This has been a hard few years ...
