March 6 — Describe an heirloom you may have inherited from a female ancestor (wedding ring or other jewelry, china, clothing, etc.) If you don’t have any, then write about a specific object you remember from your mother or grandmother, or aunt (a scarf, a hat, cooking utensil, furniture, etc.)

I have shared several postings in the past of family treasures.  You can view them by going here.  I have shared about wedding rings, bibles and bears made out  of fur coats.  I am blessed to have treasures from my mother, aunt daisy, grandmas and grandpas and great grandparents.  The best treasures in my opinion are the family bibles.

Family Heirlooms

This is the sixth week of Amy Coffin’s series on Abundant Genealogy.

Week 6 – Family Heirlooms: For which family heirloom are you most thankful? How did you acquire this treasure and what does it mean to you and your family

I have many family heirlooms.  How do I possibly pick  my favorite or what I am thankful for ?

I treasure my mother's wedding ring that I wear most days.  If I still had her I would not have it and would gladly give it back to her.  Same with my aunt Daisy's ring, she wore it to work and church and I admired it every time I saw it.  I would gladly turn it back over to her.  I have my grandmother's ring, I do not remember her wearing it but I also would love to give it back to her also.

I have vintage albums and family photos, other pieces of jewelry and glassware.  Any furniture I was given I have passed on to my boys already.  This is from my mother's side.

I have very little from my father's side. My grandmother died before I was born and we lived in Minnesota while grandpa Zion lived in Washington.  But I do have from that side my grandmothers autograph book from when she was a teenager which my grandpa wrote in before they married.  I have a souvenier from the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair that was given to my great grandmother Mabel Coleman Hall from great grandfather Arthur Hall.  I also have several bibles from that side of the family.

I also have letters and cards that both grandmother's wrote to the family and a couple letters from grandpa Zion. I love to see their handwriting.  I have letters from my mother to me and from my father to my mother.

I guess what I treasure most is the letters, with these I am seeing their thoughts and their hand writing.  They are still with me when I read them, as the jewelry when I wear it I feel they are still with me.

Fearless Females Post 6 ~ Heirlooms

I have several heirlooms. I wear my mother's wedding rings every day. They are so fragile they have been connected.




These two darling bears are made out of my mother's mink coat and my grandmother's fur coat. There was enough fur that not only do us girls have them but my brother and the grand sons also have one or two bears.

I have dishes that belonged to both grandmothers and have started to share these with grandchildren and family bibles. I posted about these Bibles before. You can read the posting at the link.

The most treasured are my mother's rings and family bibles that have been passed down . I have started to pass on some of the bibles but I have kept these two for now.

Treasure Chest Thursday Memories Of My Mom, Kirsten and Marilyn

For Treasure Chest Thursday I am sharing toys that belonged to my mother and hand made treasures from my granddaughters Kirsten.

My mom was born in 1922 so these toys are probably from the late 1920's to early 1930's.

Towards the end of my mother's time with us she would give us a belonging of hers at Christmas time rather than buying something. Those gifts are more priceless than any bought gift.

One year she gave me her old toys, a tin tea set and a old phone. Yes young people phones use to looked like this. At this time the toys sit on a book shelf. At one time I use to have an old lawyer's book case. The kind of book case with glass and you would lift up the front to get inside.

I would place all my treasures inside to protect from hands of my grandchildren. They would love to look inside to see what was there. One rule was look but do not open. If you want to touch something ask me to open.

I have two distinct memories of these treasures and my granddaughters.

One is granddaughter Kirsten looking inside to see the treasures she made me. She was proud of her work and wanted to make sure they were there. Yes they were still there. Part of my treasure collection.
Today they sit on my kitchen window shelf. That way I see them every day. I look out the window I see them. I prepare food on my table there they are. Some of my most priced treasures.


Second memory is of granddaughter Marilyn. She would sit in front of the book case and stare at the pretty treasures in grandma Grace's bookcase.

I turned my back on Marilyn one time and when I turned around She had figured how to open the glass door and was sitting on the floor playing with my mom's tin cups and saucers.

Some day I may have to buy myself another lawyer's bookcase.

Memories of family is what keeps me going some days.

Vintage Family Real Photo Postcard Trying To Identifying It

I love old photos and postcards and if they relate to family all the better.

Take a peek at this great Real Photo Postcard. It came out of family papers.

This group of children are standing in front of a black board with writing so they are in school.
Take a peek at their clothing. Young man second child from the right is in a sailor outfit. The hats the bonnets are amazing. There is young boy and girl second row and she is holding on to his arm. Probably her brother.

The back is unused except for a question mark some one wrote. The stamp area is marked by Velox around it with triangles dates it 1909 to 1914.

I noticed a big clue. On back is marked L E Conger Druggist, Mora Minnesota. This tells me it is from my mother's side of the family.

Such an adorable group of children. Wish I knew who they were. Need to study it more.

My grandmother Grace lived in Mora at this time with her family. She would of been 17 so not her but could very well be her younger sister Merle born 1906 or brother Wayne born 1909.

Next step is to see if by chance there are any photos of them as children.

I love a good mystery .. may not be able to solve this positively but think I am on the right track...

Some of the best gifts are family heirlooms

Advent Calendar Day 17 Christmas Memories... During the last years my mother was with us every year she would give us gifts of her favorite treasures as Christmas gifts .
This is one of my favorites. It is a brooch that my mother bought as a gift for my grandmother Grace about 1942.
She gave me a note in her handwriting telling me that it cost her $12.00 which was a whole weeks wages and tips. She worked at the Asia Cafe, the same cafe my father went to and introduced himself to her after seeing her picture on my grandparents mantel.
I posted about this brooch before on December 10th 2009. It is one of my most priced possessions.

TREASURE CHEST THURSDAY ~ Dad's Letter in Baseball 1940 1941

For Treasure Chest Thursday I am sharing my father's Letter Award in Baseball. I never knew he lettered in Baseball till going through his papers.

I love having these pieces of my parents lives in my family notebook.

Antique Family Bibles Are Such Great Treasures

Here is another of my family treasures. At one time I had the pleasant task to be the keeper of our family bibles. Within the last year I have passed on one to each of my sons and my sister nows has two others at her home. But I have for now kept two of my favorites. Some day they will be passed on to my boys.

The smallest bible belonged to Louisa Marie Reynolds who married George Hall.
They had a son Arthur Reynolds Hall who married Mabel Coleman He passed it down to their daughter Alta Louise Hall.
Alta married my grandfather Perry Zion.
My father Arthur passed this down to me.
So this bible belonged to great great grandmother. She owned this when she was married to George Hall since she has signed it Louisa M Hall Evansville Wisconsin.

She has recorded her parents name and 7 sister's name with their birth dates. Her parents were John G Reynolds born 1800 and Mandania G Grover born 1815. She had amazingly beautiful handwriting.
The second bible belonged to my grandmother Alta Hall Zion. Inside there is this small note with my father's name and his address when he was in the merchant marines in 1943. She must of given it to him at that time.

The smallest bible is dated 1844
My grandmother's bible is not dated itself. She has written her name and my grandfather's name and the date 1911. She married grandpa Perry in 1913.

I love family bibles. Only one had family information written in it. What a treasure to have that written family history.
