Amy Johnson Crow has a prompt for each week this year. This is week 6 and this is my first post of the year. I may go back and pick up some of the past weeks prompts. Time will tell. This weeks prompt is same name and it fits perfect with my name Grace Alta. I am so proud of both of my names since my maternal grandma was Grace and my paternal grandma was Alta.
I was not lucky enough to know my grandma Alta physically but feel her presence near me at times. I sometimes think she is whispering in my ear. I adored my grandma Grace and have fond memories of her.
Grace Celeste Daly Esler was born the 6th of July 1892 to Catherine Ellen Gallaher and Andrew Daly. They never married. My great grandma Catherine was shunned by her parents for having a child out of wedlock. Catherine married Appleton Esler and they had a long and happy marriage. He raised grandma Grace as his. Appleton had been married before and had two children Tillie and Russell. Together Appleton and Catherine had two children Merle and Wayne. They were a happy blended family and I was lucky to know all of my great aunts and uncles. Grandma passed away August 18, 1972.
Alta comes from my paternal grandma. She was born the 26th of June 1892 to Arthur Hall and Mabel Coleman Hall. Alta passed away from cancer the 21st of February 1844.
Alta was named after her grandma Alta Angeline Cheuvront 1848 -1937.
Hope that you enjoyed my same name different Alta or Grace

For Treasure Chest Thursday I am sharing the Wedding Announcement for my paternal grandparents Perry J Zion and Alta L Hall
A very pretty wedding took place on Wednesday, June 11th at high noon, at the home of Mr and Mrs A R Hall, when their daughter Alta L became the bride of Perry J Zion, the Rev A W Johnson officiating. The bride wore a beautiful dress of white voile and carried white roses.
A beautiful dinner followed the ceremony for which covers were laid for fifty. The young people are well and favorably known and were the recipients of many beautiful and useful presents: Lamp, Mr and Mrs J H Coleman, grandparents of the bride, cupboard, Mr and Mrs A R Hall parents of the bride, rug, Mr and Mrs E L Coleman, pair of vases Alta and Mae Oberkotter; carving set and spoons, Agnes, Florence and George Hall; knives and forks, Mr and Mrs J G Wirsig; water set Mr and Mrs F E Mills; berry set, Harry and Bessie Oberkotter; clock Mr and Mrs A J Roath; salt and pepper shakers, Bertha and Irma Wirsig; motto Rev and Mrs A W Johnson; set salt and pepper and toothpick holder, Verma and Floyd Coleman, towels, Mr and Mrs Exley; condiment set Pearl Hall,; table cloth, Mr and Mrs Oberkotter; sewing machine, Belle Hall; doily, Erancis Mills; tablecloth, Mr and Mrs Elmer Coleman; hand painting, E E W; cream ladle, Mr and Mrs W B wright; Motto, Gertrude Zion; $5,00, Mark Hall; set napkins Mr and Mrs B B Holmes.
As I read the gifts given they mainly come from the family of Alta. Gertrude Zion is the groom's sister. I see no mention of Perry's parents Adam and Rachel Zion.
The wedding took place in Taylor, Loup, Nebraska. 1910 had Adam and Rachel living in Sargent Custer, Nebraska so not sure if they missed the wedding or gift not mentioned. Map quest has the distance about 9 miles.

52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks Week 1 Thanking My Aunt Alice
Getting to know my ancestors better week after week
I am going to cheat a little and start with sharing my first post back in March 2009. It was in honor of my aunt Alice Zion Moore who is the one who got me interested in my family history. It is her fault that I am drowning in papers, binders and photos.
Many times I will share with my family something and I sense them thinking of something else, but later I will say something and they will comment " I remember that." Or they will bring up a piece of family history, rumor or secret. I feel a sense of happiness that maybe they were listening to me.
I love my ancestors and know they are always near me. Sometimes I think of them as my guardian angels.
One time I heard my grandma Alta Hall Zion's voice in my head. She had passed before I was born. I was expressing I wish I had known her as I gazed at her picture. This voice within said you have. I felt a feeling of comfort sensing her within me.
So here is a copy of my first post.. my tribute to my aunt Alice

My Aunt Alice Lives On In Me
Aunt Alice and Uncle Houston on their wedding day
My interest in family history started many years ago. My father had a twin sister who had the genealogy bug. Aunt Alice was her name. She would come to visit from California with her husband in their motor home. I loved when she came. Into the house she would walk with her arms full of pictures, charts and graphs and tons of information of what she had found. They would travel the US visiting towns where our family had lived. She met many distant relatives. She love to visit with them. She would share family stories and search family bibles for information. She was very big on family reunions. Being that I lived in Minnesota and the reunions were in Washington I only made it once, but I remember how great it was. I have memories of my father's brothers playing horseshoes. Every one is gone now but I have the memories and the photos of that day.
She passed away several years ago but I feel she lives in on me. I have been working on my family history for over 10 years. My aunt Alice never knew all that we can find on the Internet today. Oh how I wish she was here to see it. One thing she did was pass on what she had in paper form with us and the Mormons genealogy center. She shared her pictures with several cousins so they are out there somewhere.
I love family research, the pictures, the family stories and visiting cemeteries. My favorite cemetery visit was in Boston. They have 2 or 3 old cemeteries. Somewhere buried there is a distant great grandmother that lived about 300 years ago. I have in my papers her name. I know I will come across it as I work at getting my papers, pictures and stories together.
I have started to put my information on Ancestry.com From there I have heard from distant family. Because of the Internet and Ancestry.com I have seen pictures of great great grandfathers I would of never seen if not for the Internet. This is the beginning of my genealogy blog. Hope that you will find it interesting as I share my stories and ideas I am using in my search.
My goals are to get organized and put together family books to show my children and grandchildren. By doing this I hope I can pass on the genealogy bug to one or more of them and maybe even one of you.
I have read many articles over the years on different aspects of family search. I plan to share with you in the next days what I am doing now and what I will be doing in the future to get my genealogy information organized so can move on with my treasure hunt of family roots.

So that is my first posting of 2019 52 Ancestors 52 Weeks. I am still as unorganized but maybe this will be the year I finish this challenge, get a little more organized and break down some brick walls. I have broken a really BIG one for me and I will share that SECRET BRICK WALL I KNOW I HAVE BROKEN with you soon but you have to promise to keep my secret.
By for now.. if by chance you think we are related please comment and get a hold of me. I would love to hear from you.. Even if we are not related I would love to hear from you.

Fearless Females Post 25 ~ Working Grandmas ~ 1910 Work Place
Fearless Females ~ March 12 ~ Working Girl
So many of my family members spent time in the home taking care of their families, but before marriage some of them did work.
I was surpised to find in the 1910 census that my grandma Grace worked as a telephone operator. I do not remember her ever telling me that. The census tells me she was 17 years old and living at home with her mother, step father and half sister Merle and half brother Wayne.
I do know that my grandma Alta taught school before marrying Grandpa Perry in Colorado. The year is 1910 and she is 17 years old and teaching in a public school.
Each of my grandmas worked before marrying after that they stayed home to take care of their families.
Thranks for stopping by lets keep saving together Grace

Treasure Chest Thursday My Grandmother Alta Zion's Letters
.jpg)
.jpg)
I never knew my Grandmother Alta Louise Zion, my father's mother. She was born to Arthur Hall and Mabel Jane (Coleman) Hall on June 26, 1892 in Evansville, Wisconsin.
She married Perry Zion on February 21, 1944 and had five children John, George, Arthur ( my dad) and his twin sister Alice and Joe. She died from cancer 1944 and I was not born till September 1948.
I have very little of what she owned. I have a few pieces of china, an autograph book that is priceless to me ( my grandfather wrote in it ), a souvenir that her mother received from her father from the Chicago World's Fair of 1893 and I have a few letters she wrote to my father and mother.
Tonight for Treasure Chest Thursday I am scanning and sharing one of them.
Winlock Washington Nov 22, 1943
Dear Art and Muriel
Thanks alot for you pictures, I know you would be happy by the pictures. I love my daughter in law and God Bless you both.
Mrs. Day ( my mom's mother) I thank you for writing me a card telling me the word, I had been worried about him, although I never should of have worried , I trust the Lord. I looked them up Fort William and Sue Canal. We have found them. It was something to see them.
Leona Francy had the appendix operation on Sat. She came thru. Cecil was going to see her Sun.
My cousin Grace Brunsell is living at Evansville Wisc ???? but I don't know the number.
Dad had lived at Bemidji the county seat. He was at Wilton the p office at Minnesota.
Grandma is staying with me as Etta is going to Tacoma. She just phone to Winlock that she was at the Depot.
She stayed about 2 weeks.
The weather is warm and foggy till noon. It is about usual weather. The sun shone at two or three. And be foggy about dark.
Joe had his birthday he was 21. Lola Allen had a birthday the same day only she was a year younger. She was 20.
Alice and John gave the supper. Joe said his thank you for your pretty birthday card.
I've got a bad cold and I can think of any thing to write.
Lot of love Mom
