How To Lose A Relative With Out Really Trying Mistakes In Census Recordings

Today while sitting at McDonald’s sipping on my soda pop I am wandering Ancestry searching for sources on my McCormick Zion family. I especially want to see what and where his children are going. The 1850 census is missing my McCormick Zion but there is a Dion McCormick. Sure enough after clicking on the census there are my McCormick Zion and his family recorded. Trouble is the person who transcribed the census recorded him as Dion McCormick 55 with wife Elizabeth 52, son John 19 and son Andrew McCormick age 17. In truth this is really McCormick Zion and all the family members with the last name Zion not McCormick. I am hoping by this find I will see what happened to Andrew Zion.  Great family stories can come by searching for siblings of our ancestors. John aka Jonathan is my ancestor.  I may learn more if I can learn more about Andrew.

On this day December 26 1863 my third great grandfather McCormic Zion passed away. He is one my third great grand fathers. He was born 22nd of  January 1795 in North Folk Holstin River, Washington county Virginia.
This posting is one day late but he is thought of today and every day.  He was married twice and his second wife Mary Gobble is my third great grand mother.
McCormick had four children, three with Mary with son John Henderson being my second great grandfather.
You can read more about McCormick and John Henderson by looking on the right hand side for postings on Zion family members.

On This Day McCormick Zion Dies in 1863

On this day December 26th 1863 McCormick Zion passes away. He is one of my third great grandfathers

McCormick was born January 22, 1795 in Virginia to John W Sr and Lucy McCormick.

McCormick was married twice, first to Sally Stuart with whom he had Sarah Zion. Sally died young some time before 1818.

McCormick then married Mary Gobble shortly after Sally's death in 1818.

McCormick and Mary had four children, Eliza , Mary, John Henderson ( my ancestor ) and Andrew.

I have copies of historical documents from a family bible where McCormick has recorded his marriages. You can see them here if you like.

They are surely a pleasure to own these copies with our family history regarding McCormick

Rest in peace grandpa... grace

Advent Calender Day 15 Holiday Happenings

For today's posting of Advent Calendar of Christmas Memories December 15 we are to share Holiday Happenings.

Were any of my ancestors born, marry or die on or about Christmas?

I had searched December for my " On This Day " Postings. I found that my 3rd great grandfather McCormick Zion passed away December 26th 1863.

I am thankful for each one of my ancestors. Because of them and their lives I am who I am. They once again come alive as I search and learn about their lives. This is why I will continue to tell their stories.

McCormick Zion Family History Pamphlet A True Treasure

This is a group of papers and photos I came across while getting organized. I had been given these a few years back and filed in the front of one of my family notebooks. This is copies of a family pamphlet entitled the " McCormic Zion record of himself and family. "
Has names and birthdays of his children. Included is a letter from the family member who has the pamphlet and a letter from my aunt Alice. Thanks to her hard work for years we got a good start on this side of the families history.

Included is a copy of the certificate of authenticity dated August 22nd 1988

This is a family treasure that is in the hands of a family member.

I am nowhere  done searching for my roots. For my missing family members.  So many to fine so little time.  This has been a hard few years ...
